"My apologies for not responding sooner. I've been a little skittish to try the internet--I've had so many problems for so long! HOWEVER, thanks to your kind support, they are SOLVED! I had 4 choices: throw the computer thru the window, with it closed; call the computer people; call you; call the phone company. I declined option #1; I called the computer people, sent the computer back to them, they replaced the modem & updated something, still had problems; called you, you said, call the phone company--we're fine; so, I called the phone company. They sent out a repair person. (A very nice person) And he said, I think it's a wire from here to us--our wire. And he found a very frayed wire that was the phone company's property--which he replaced at their expense.
